Making The Most of It

This (LAST) Week’s Deals and Steals October 17, 2010

My best deal of the week (for last week, I keep forgetting today is Sunday) was not a result of shopping, but a result of my Gram moving and downsizing. I got three large bags of  gift wrap, gift boxes, etc. for free that she no longer has room or a need for. I’m thrilled because frankly I never think to buy that stuff ahead of time (other than Christmas wrap) and keep it on hand. I end up wrapping b-day gifts in newspaper or spending a ridiculous amount to buy pretty paper at the last moment. This should keep me set for a while. I still need to look through it! It’s been so busy I haven’t had time to see everything but that’s on my to-do list for my day off this week. I also go a large Tupperware 8 Cup measuring cup from her. I love freecycling, whether it’s passing on my own items, or receiving items I need. You can get much more frugal or green than that!

On the online shopping front I took advantage of the additonal 20% off clearance items plus free shipping Land’s End has been offering. This offer was sent to my email and I had to shop through the email link for it to work. I don’t believe you can get the deal without the email. There does, however, seem to be another deal available for just the additional 20% off using code EXTRAFALL and pin 5298. You may still find some decent deals even with having to pay shipping. It’s only valid through tomorrow (10/18 /10) so shop soon if you want to take advantage. I purchased two boys’ necklaces, two women’s bracelets, two market bags, and one tote bag for under $50.00 which will all be for Christmas gifts. Oh! And I almost forgot, a couple of weeks ago I got a Catalina from Price Chopper for a free hard cover photo book from Shutterfly. I only had to pay shipping. Christmas gift for dh’s grandmother…check! Total cost for the photo book was $7.99. Yes,  kind of steep for shipping one 20 page book, but since the book retails for $30.00 plus shipping, and it’s just the kind of gift she loves, it was worth it!

Lastly I returned some items to Bath & Body Works yesterday that I didn’t like and picked up a few items using the credit from the returns and a couple of coupons. Unfortunately I no longer had my recepits and since they are items no longer sold in the stores (only online, which is where I purchased them) I could only receive a store credit for the last price they sold for in the stores (which was $3 a piece). I’m not really sure how much I paid for them since I use a lot of coupon codes, but getting just $9.00 in store credit for $30.50 worth of items was a bit of a bummer. I didn’t want my money back, I just wanted to exchange the two shower gels and one body lotion for two shower gels and one body lotion in fragrances I did like but I wasn’t allowed to. I learned my lesson. 1. Don’t order B&BW products online unless I already know I like the scent and 2. Save my invoices until I’m sure I won’t need them. I’m happy I came home with things I did like though. For $10.60 OOP I bought a Twisted Peppermint Shower Gel (for my youngest son who LOVES it), 1 Warm Vanilla Suger Body Butter, 1 Sensual Amber Body Butter, a 4 oz ‘Tis the Season candle, and a travel size Lay It On Thick Shower Cream. The shower gel and shower cream were free after coupons, the body butters were on sale for $7 each, and the candle was on sale for $5. It’s crazy to think everything pictured below would have cost over $56.00 if I had paid full retail price for it.

What bargains have you gotten lately? Where do you find your best deals? I seem to only be able to find online deals, thrift store deals, and mall deals, plus the occasional hand-me-down or mail freebie. I’ve given up on drugstore deals since Rite Aid changed the way they do sales and rewards, and grocery deals seem limited where I can shop. I still clip grocery coupons and watch the sales but I’ll never be able to get groceries for my family of four (six if you count the cats) for under $100. I’d love to save more on food and the like, but  I guess I’ll take any deals I can get!

Possible Free Bic Pens at Price Chopper with Coupon August 6, 2010

Check for a printable $1/2 Bic pens coupon. My Price Chopper (and I’m assuming this is at all PC’s) has certain Bic Pens for 2/$1.00 essentially making the pens free after the coupon (you pay any sales tax). I was able to print two off two of the coupons to use when I do my grocery shopping this weekend.

Bath & Body Works free lotion and more!

If you are not a fan of Bath & Works on Facebook yet hop on over to Facebook and become a fan right now (well maybe not right now but after you’ve read a few posts here lol).  They often offer coupons for a free product, not other purchase necessary. This week if you are a fan you can print a coupon for a free trial size bottle of Dark Kiss lotion, their newest fragrance. You can also print a coupon here for a free travel size item with any purchase (must be a paying purchase) and get another freebie! Note you may have to use your coupons in two separate trasnactions since both state they cannot be combined with any other offers, it will all depend on your cashier. I haven’t been to B&BW in a while, but picked up my freebies today since I was a the mall anyway, and I LOVE the Dark Kiss! It sort of reminds me of Debbie Gibson’s Electric Youth perfume from my childhood! I liked it so much I got the Dark Kiss travel spray as my free travel item with purchase.  I got everything pictured here for $15.90 (the candles I bought are a preview of their fall fragrances so they are currently only $5.00 each, normally they are $9.50 each). I was going to buy just one but I couldn’t decide which of the these I liked best so I got them all. I burn a lot of candles in the cooler months and Slatkin candles are my favorites.

Facebook Freebies in my Mailbox May 29, 2010

Filed under: Freebies — Kimberly @ 7:51 PM

This week’s mail brought three Facebook freeibes! Facebook freebies are usually obtained by becoming a FB fan of things you like, and then keeping your eye out for their special offers and contests, many of which you have to be quick on the draw to enter so you don’t miss out.

Free tee from Yoplait and Susan G Komen promoting breast cancer awareness.

Free reusable bag (it came with coupons too, not in the picture) from Earthbound Farm, and a coupon for a free Butterfinger candy bar.

These are no longer currently available but keep a lookout for other Facebook freebies in the future!

So Far In the Mailbox This Week… April 27, 2010

Filed under: Freebies — Kimberly @ 6:53 PM

It’s only Tuesday and so far I’ve received in the mail a $6.99 rebate check (from Organix), a $7.99 rebate check (from P&G Quench for Clunkers), a coupon for a free package of YoPlus yogurt (snagged it through Mommy Snacks blog), a $1.00 UKotex coupon (from Rite Aid), a coupon for free hair color (I think it was Natural Instincts, I’m not positive though I passed it on to my mother, from a Facebook offer) and a $10 Old Navy gift card (earned through MyPoints). Not too shabby! I hope the rest of the week brings some more (free) goodies, and not just bills! Have you received any fun freebies in the mail recently?

Wed. mail: Aveeno Nourish and Shine shampoo and conditioner sample with $1 off Q. I think this was from an offer that they emailed me but I can’t remember for sure. I’ve seen a few different Aveeno sample offers recently. If you go to their site you can sign up for your own sample here.

Thursday’s mail brought the things in this photo:

The Bakugan I ordered from Amazon with a $5 gift card I got from Swagbucks making it completely free (I have Amazon Prime so most of the items I order from them ship for free).  The Pantene shampoo and conditioner, Cascade, Iams, and Prilosec samples all came from P&G’s sampler as well as coupons for Iams cat food and Pantene.

Friday: The mail was void of freebies, but the UPS man did deliver an advance readers copy of The Handbook For Lightning Strike Survivors  by Michele Young-Stone, compliments of Random House’s Read It Forward program. It took several months after I started signing up each month to request a book to actually receive one (it’s while supplies last), but since it only takes a minute of my time each month I kept trying. Now that I’ve finally received a book and know that it’s a real offer, I recommend you try it!  I will probably continue signing up each time I see a book offered that interests me. I only wish there were a similar offer for books for children and young adults beause as much as I love to read I can never seem to keep up with my ever-growing pile of books!

Saturday: Today is the last mail day of the week and today’s freebie is this tote bag from Bags on the Run (Facebook giveaway, no longer available as they went very fast and had a limited number available, but check out their site to buy your own bag):

I would say this week was a very successful mail week. They don’t always end up like this! In fact often I’ll go several weeks without very many surprises in the mail.  Keep in mind when you sign up for things like those above some offers never come. Some you’ll forget about and may show up WEEKS later and wonder where they came from. Some you’ll wonder why you ever signed up for in the first place when they do arrive (it’s best to only sign up for things that you know you, or someone you know, will use otherwise it’s just junk and clutter to you). And others, like they rebates (who doesn’t like money), you’ll be excited over. Just remember to always be careful about what personal information you give out to whom, and that if something seems too good to be true it probably is. If you keep those things in mind you should be able to become a successful “freebie hunter” in no time.

In My Mailbox This Week March 16, 2010

Opening the mailbox to bills and more bills day after day is no fun! Want to add some fun to your mailbox? It only takes a little time and effort (often times all you need to do is sign up your name, address, and possibly your email address and age). This is what my mailbox has held in the past 24 hours. All absolutely free except for a little bit of my time.

The Glade products are courtesy of Right at Home. If you go to their website and sign up for their newsletter you will have the chance to sign up (once a month I think) for free products. If you are one of the first 10,000 to click through your email and sign up for the giveaway you’ll receive your products several weeks later (I’m not sure which month this is from, this is the first time I actually made it to the first 10,000).

The Kotex samples were from an offer I posted about in a previous post. It’s no longer available but there is a new offer here that gives you four choices to pick from! My favorite part is the coupon that comes with the samples. This particular sample pack came with a $1.00 off coupon.

The Barnes & Noble gift card is just one of many gift cards I’ve earned from being a member of MyPoints and will make a nice Easter basket filler for my bookworm.

The Bath & Body Works gift card came as compensation for an issue I had at one of their stores and contacted them about, but you can get your Bath & Body Works gift card by earning it through MyPoints (as well as gift cards for several other merchants).

What are you waiting for? Take advantage of the offers available to you online and soon you’ll be excited to open your mailbox each day instead of dreading it!

Update: Other goodies that showed up in my mailbox this week:  Burt’s Bees Natural Toothpaste 0.5oz sample, Olay Total Effects Body Wash 2 oz  sample (Walmart), a coupon booklet from Eat Better America, a $15 P&G rebate, 2 Victoria’s Secret Secret Reward Cards (will be worth $10, $50, $100, or $500) that came with purchases.
